Just as with other medical professions, employment outlook is oftentimes perfect among those who have degrees related to medical technology. Since there is continuous growth in field of medical technology and there are constantly new development of diagnostic procedures, there are expected surge in careers for those majoring in medical technology.

Employment Qualifications

Those who are performing diagnostic and analytical functions in a clinical medical lab usually have Bachelor of Science degree in any of the following:

  • Biology
  • Medical technology
  • Statistics
  • Chemistry

In other states, it is necessary as well among medical technologists to pass professional certification exam. This will be vital for them to be credentialed and work in their chosen field.

Lab technicians who will be assisting medical technologists in other clinical functions might be considered for a job too. However, this is assuming that they have Associate degree or a postsecondary certificate in allied health science field.

In some situations, other people who don’t receive formal training can step up to becoming a lab technician after being an apprentice as lab assistant and acquiring hands-on training which enables them to do tasks for higher positions.

There are great opportunities for majors of medical technology in independent clinical medical laboratories, hospitals, medical research centers, pharmaceutical companies and a lot more.
